  HoDs “love it!”

iAbacus® is unique. Other school systems are time-consuming and complicated – full of features which slow staff down and frustrate them.   iAbacus® is engaging and a joy to use.

  Step-by-step process

iAbacus® is based on a process designed by John Pearce during 40 years as a School Improvement Adviser. It helps HoDs evaluate, think strategically and plan actions to drive improvement.

  5 Minute Guarantee

iAbacus® is straightforward and intuitive. HoDs start using it immediately and instinctively. If they need help – we’ll happily show them everything they need to know in just 5 minutes.

10 Reasons HoDs “Love” iAbacus

  1. They don’t need any training – just a 5-minute video.
  2. They access it anytime, anywhere – even on their iPads.
  3. They’re guided step-by-step through the entire process.
  4. They start with their judgment – not collecting evidence.
  5. They become familiar with Ofsted grade descriptors.
  6. They quickly produce a combined self-evaluation and action plan.
  7. They’re committed to the action plan (it’s based on their self-evaluation!).
  8. They involve other staff in the department by inviting them to collaborate.
  9. They see how their actions contribute to the whole school improvement plan.
  10. They learn an improvement process they’ll use for the rest of their career.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Why are you sponsoring this pilot project?

Put simply, we know this unique school improvement process works – and we want to prove it’ll work in your school!

We want to eliminate your concerns, e.g. Will staff use it? Will it make in impact? Would it be value for money?

To achieve this, we cover the costs of providing our full support service and access to our online tools for five departments in your school for 30 days.

Without any risk – you can expect the following outcomes:

  1.  Five HoDs will strengthen their self-evaluation skills and develop a mind-set to plan actions strategically.
  2. Five HoDs will produce a department self-evaluation and strategic action plan to share with your SLT.
  3.  You will be able to use our revolutionary online tool to analyse effectiveness across the departments.

You will have a proven pilot project which can be extended to include other departments in your school.

Q. What happens when the pilot project ends?

After 30 days you can download and print the five department self-evaluation and action plans. If you do not extend the project – we will de-activate access to our online tool and bring our support services to an end.

Q. How much does it cost to extend the pilot project?

Extending the project costs £50 per department. This includes everything for an entire year. Please request a quote.

Q. What’s so special about iAbacus?

iAbacus® isn’t just software – it’s a unique tool based on an empowering process that builds the capacity of department heads. It doesn’t rely on form-filling or data-entry. There are no complex dashboards or overwhelming screens full of widgets. It won’t burden HoDs with bureaucracy and un-necessary paperwork. Instead, it supports and structures their thinking as it guides them through a step-by-step process to help them accurately self-evaluate their department, analyse factors that are helping or hindering effectiveness and plan detailed actions to improve.

One headteacher summed it up when he said: The unique selling point about iAbacus is that staff use it!

Here are 10 reasons why HoDs are so keen to use it:

  10. And finally… they learn an improvement process they’ll use for the rest of their career.

Gerald Haigh, ex-headteacher, journalist, and author of a number of leadership books interviewed headteachers to uncover why iAbacus is unique and innovative. You can read his article online at www.iabacus.co.uk/review

Simple yet powerful process…

Scroll down to see the process HoDs follow.

HoDs start with their judgements

They slide the beads to record their initial judgements about the effectiveness of their department in each of the areas.

Review the (Ofsted) criteria

HoDs then check the accuracy of their judgements by reviewing the criteria (in most cases this will be the relevant Ofsted grade descriptors) .

Summarise the evidence

HoDs then justify their judgements by entering a summary of their evidence and including file attachments or weblinks.

Analyse what’s helping or hindering

HoDs then analyse the factors that are helping or hindering effectiveness in their department.

Action planning

HoDs plan strategic actions to strengthen the helping factors and tackle those that are hindering.

Create reports to share

With one click – HoDs create a departmental self-evaluation and action plan to share with staff in their department and members of the SLT.

Collaborate with others

HoDs invite staff in their department to add their beads for a simple 360° approach. They also invite members of the SLT so they can view their strategy to improve.

Choose up-to 5 HoDs in your school. We’ll do the rest.
